Becoming most noticeable in Winter, mistletoe; the English common name for most obligate hemiparasitic plants in the order Santalales, mistletoe attaches to a host tree or shrub by a structure called the haustorium, extracting water and nutrients from the host plant. The kissing ritual predates the celebration of Christmas, rooted in Norse mythology in the days of the ancient Druids cir.3rd century b.c.
