Description
The British Museum was designed to reflect all the wondrous objects housed within, by the architect Sir Robert Smirke in 1823. It emulated classical Greek architecture – a style which had become increasingly popular since the 1750s when western Europeans rediscovered ancient Greece.
Located in the Bloomsbury area of London, England, established in 1753, opened to the public in 1759. Designed by Foster and Partners, the Great Court is a two-acre space enclosed by a spectacular geodesic glass roof with the world-famous Reading Room in the middle.
