The cougar plays an important role in balancing the food chain of the region before settlers began dominating the landscape with cattle and sheep. The purpose of Tolay Lake Regional Park is to preserve the historical value of the area. Tolay Lake is a shallow freshwater lake in southern Sonoma County, California, United States. The lake, nestled within the southern vestiges of the Sonoma Mountains, is the site of significant Native American prehistoric seasonal settlement.
